About Andy Burgess

Andy Burgess is a professional wood sculptor based in Knutsford, Cheshire. He works predominantly with Chainsaws and power tools to create one off bespoke pieces from tree trunks, stumps and logs for his clients to enjoy in their gardens and in public spaces.

The majority of Andy’s work comes from private commissions, transforming tree stumps and logs into custom-made carvings of birds, animals and other wildlife, as well as human form figures and more abstract and contemporary pieces. Andy works closely with his clients to fine tune ideas and designs and to realise their wishes. Every Carving is unique and made to order.

Andy’s sculptures give a new lease of life to wood that may otherwise have been disposed of or destroyed - for example storm damaged, wind blown and diseased trees.

Sustainability is a key feature of his designs and is at the heart of everything he creates. He carves using greenwood i.e. wood that has not been pre-treated, kiln dried or tantalised.

Much of Andy‘s work is done in situ in private gardens and public spaces to complement and enhance the surroundings.

His sculptures range from a couple of feet in height to huge installations weighing several tons.
The absence of a tree stump is not a limiting factor. Andy’s close links with his Tree Surgeon means that quality timber can always be sourced locally and once carved, installed professionally.

Andy was the first Chainsaw Wood Sculptor to exhibit at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2013. He has been a regular exhibitor at the RHS flower show at Tatton since 2011 and he has been featured in numerous television programs such as Love Your Weekend - Filming with Alan Titchmarsh.

Andy has produced work for private and corporate clients throughout the UK, working closely with architects, and interior designers and landscape architects.
His portfolio includes the National Trust, Trentham Gardens in Staffordshire and several major housebuilding companies. He has also completed over 70 installations for the Nando’s restaurant chain.

Andy frequently works with schools, councils and community projects to provide art for open spaces, whether it’s creating a log bench in a school playground with input an ideas from the pupils, sculpting figures of local and historical significance or designing sculpture trails in parks and Woodland areas.
